I offer an organ consultancy service for both pipe and electronic organs, and a representative example of the former is currently available on this website (read).  The service has also proved popular for those wondering what to do about a problematic digital organ or those who are thinking of purchasing one because  I am one of the few able to offer, not only an expert view, but one which is completely independent of the industry.  So if you are bemused about the claims and counter-claims of the sales people and their sometimes extravagant advertising material, you can contact me using the email address at the Contact Me button above.

It is worth saying a little more about the digital organ scene because the issues are not restricted to purely technical ones, important though these are.  The Royal School of Church Music has said that "electronic organ firms place far more emphasis on sales and publicity skills than pipe organ builders in the UK.  Take that into account" (reference below).  This is wise counsel, because in my experience it is undoubtedly true that, sadly, some firms do not always act in the interests of the customer.  As an example, on one occasion I was contacted by someone apparently seeking information about the products of a certain digital organ manufacturer, and I replied in good faith.  Yet shortly afterwards I found him demonstrating them.  It turned out that he was the board chairman, who had withheld his identity in his approaches to me.  Such deliberate deception at the highest level is something that firms with a more rational business culture would reject.

Nevertheless, it is gratifying that firms such as these obviously think my profile is high enough to justify their indulging in such self-defeating antics, because I can of course pass the information on to my clients.  Should a client then decide to contact the firm, he or she can do so circumspectly.  Ask yourself whether you would choose to deal with such organisations when, fortunately, there are others who do not descend to such crude practices and with whom it is a pleasure to do business.  Bear in mind that a firm which reveals lack of good faith to me is likely to treat you the same way, and you need to be aware of who they are.
